Spread over ten acres, it provides seating for 73,000 fans during the NFL season, and 82,000 fans for the annual Florida/Georgia game. Its full concession stands offer cocktails, sodas and snacks, plus Alltel boasts two of the largest Sony Jumbotron scoreboards (60’ x 156’) in the country!
Originally built in 1946, the stadium was called the Gator Bowl, but with
the naming of an NFL franchise to the City of Jacksonville and the start of
$135 million dollar renovation project, a new era for the stadium began. Of
course, they said that it couldn’t be done and that it wouldn’t be ready in
time. It was the fall of 1993 and the date for the first game was less than
two years away. Normally, it would take 30 to 36 months for the design and
construction process to complete, and now that had to be accomplished in 20
months. But on August 19, 1995, the Jacks Now the home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is regarded as the “Cadillac of Stadiums.” It continues to host the annual NCAA University of Florida versus the University of Georgia football game, plus it is the host for the annual Gator Bowl. The stadium’s highly visible status with a professional franchise attracts other activities which generate enormous public image. Past performances include U2, Garth Brooks, and the Rolling Stones.
